I was going through some old photos. I couldn't stand the pic of me in a tube top any more and was determined to change it. I found this one, but really, to appreciate it, you have to see it full size. It might be my favourite family photo.
I am the little one, Margie is the big sister. It seems to me that the day might not have been unfolding as our mother had planned. I don't recall where we were going, we had obviously been told, "You Will Go. And You Will Have A Good Time." And despite the fact that our brother looks like the spawn of some evil spirit with that hairline and perplexed look, he's really smart and a nice guy too.
- the mother's hat was black velvet with white "cigarette" looking decorations on the side, white satin on the inside. very expensive, i remember when she bought it. oy.
- poor mommy looks like she is recovering from armpit surgery. oy.
- tanks g*d for john, paul, george and ringo, co-inventors of bangs, saving many of us from a life of unfortunate foreheads, especially the poor brother. oy.
- poor sisters who were coerced and threatened into wearing white gloves and, poor me for standing with hands folded ala the queen mother. mommy's gloves were white kid leather. very expensive. oy
- we were going to the wedding of the next door neighbour who kath was named for. the marriage didn't last but i remember all the adults talking about the groom who was quite cavalier and risque, older than the bride with a "reputation". for what i never knew. oy.
- what i don't remember is what happened immediately prior to this photo that would have left us all with those faces. oy vey. those are bad faces! especially our brother damien. heh heh.

See, this is the best part of having a sister- being able to fill in the blanks in stories. I so want a sister! I'll just adopt you two, I go around blog land adopting sisters.
I love the story about the neighbors wedding! : ) Classic!

Hee Hee Hee.
I LOVE it. I'm gonna dig out some old pictures and see what my sister and I can come up with.
Oh, and your mother was probably threatening you before this picture was taken. That's what all the faces are about. I do that to my kids too. Makes a good 'look' don't ya think? :)
So much for happy childhood memories.
Oh, and your brother should KILL you both for posting this picture of him. You're both adorable. Him? Not his best pic. I bet.

Oh. my god...OMG...you are killing me. My dad used to (and probably still does) call me and my sister the Children of the Corn, too.
Please tell me about your brother's hair! Does he know you've posted this photo?!!
This is awesome! I love it.

are you gonna tell me i didn't comment on this....photo yet? i have read the post, looked very closely a the expressions on the faces and laughed with my hand covering my mouth. but i guess i hopped off the internet before writing to y'all to say greetings children of the corn! margie you look scared. kath you look kind of oblivious. and have a crooked bow on top of your teensy cute blond head. i also have photos of my sister and i -we are 2 years apart- dressed with gloves, hats and cute little pleated skirts and matching jackets. we look a little happier but not much. no adults are hovering behind up in the photos though either.
great double post!!!!!

I hated being gussied up in matching dresses with my sisters. I hated it so much that I never made my 4 girls wear matching dresses, except once when grandma sent them for Christmas...
